What is TikTok Live Video?

TikTok is a social media app where people can watch and share short videos. The app has a “live” feature that allows you to broadcast your live video to any of your followers.

The purpose of using Tiktok Live is so you can connect with your audience and increase views for your live broadcast.

You can set up a live broadcast with an introduction that helps viewers learn more about you or what product or service you are selling.

It also helps if you use captions when talking during your live broadcast, so viewers who speak a different language can still understand what you are saying.

Live streaming is a great way to connect with your audience in real-time. You can get feedback from them, have conversations with them, and answer questions from your followers.

It’s also a great way to connect with the people who support you and make them feel like they are really part of your journey.

How to get followers on TikTok

Although TikTok is an app that you can use to make and watch short videos, it is not that easy to get a following.

Getting new followers isn’t always easy, but with these tips and tricks on how to get followers on TikTok, your chances will be much better!

Here are the 10 best ways to get followers on TikTok.

1. Use TikTok Live

If you’re already live-streaming, give your audience a heads up by starting at least 15 minutes before you start.

This will help you collect more viewers and improve engagement. Sharing a preview of your stream helps secure more organic viewers since users can then decide if they want to tune in or not.

Be sure to use a call-to-action (CTA) in order to direct traffic toward your streaming page during and after your broadcast.

2. Create content that’s enjoyable to watch

When it comes to creating videos, you need to make sure that your videos are captivating and entertaining. Your idea doesn’t have to be original—just be clever.

For example, let’s say you choose a lip-sync contest as your content.

Here are three ideas of videos that can be made:

  • lip-sync a popular song,
  • do a duet with another user (use #duetcontest), or
  • find other users on Instagram who post similar content.

3. Use hashtags in your captions and videos

In order to grow your following and remain relevant, ensure that people can easily find your account. One way of doing so is by using hashtags.

Hashtags are essentially keywords attached with a pound sign, which connect your content with relevant content.

When someone searches for these words or phrases in their search bar, they will find related posts, including yours!

4. Create unique, high-quality content

The most effective way to build your following is by consistently posting high-quality content.

If you want people to see what you post, be prepared for them (and yourself) to invest time in checking out your stuff.

5. Find friends who are also starting their accounts

If you want more people to follow you, you need more people who are already following you. Look for people who are starting new accounts—they’re likely going to be your biggest fans at first.

These folks will help boost your follower count so that other newbies can see it and follow you as well.

Make sure that when asking for follows, you tell them what kind of content they can expect from your account.

6. Share your account with people you know

Sharing your account with friends, family, and people you know can help you reach a broader audience.

You could also post funny/engaging videos around specific days/times of the year such as birthdays, holidays, and special events such as graduations.

Always remember to tag them in your posts so they can easily find and watch your videos!

7. Show love for other accounts by liking their posts

Buying likes is shady and a waste of money. The quickest way to gain a ton of followers, though, is by showing love for other accounts in your niche.

As long as you’re authentic about it and not spammy, account owners will want to follow you back when they see that you actually like their content and aren’t just buying fake likes.

8. Never spam or harass people

To get more followers on TikTok, it’s important to remember that you shouldn’t spam or harass people. The worst thing you can do is send your potential fans obnoxious notifications.

Users will quickly decide whether they like your content, so try not to make them frustrated with your brand.

After all, if someone wants nothing to do with you or your business, there isn’t much you can do about it.

10. Post consistently

Posting content on any social platform is tough, especially if you’re a beginner.

How to use the filters on TikTok live

When you open the live function on TikTok, there are a variety of filters to choose from. You can switch between the filters while recording your video.

You can also adjust the lighting and the speed of your video by tapping the settings wheel at the bottom of the screen.

There are many benefits to using TikTok live. One is that it’s a great way to increase your following. Another benefit is that viewers chat in-video while you’re live.

What You Should Never Do on TikTok Live

With so many people using TikTok live, it can get pretty tricky trying to decide what you should do on TikTok live and what you should never do on TikTok live!

For your best experience, here are 6 things you should never do on TikTok live

Don’t Pick On Anyone

It’s never cool to make fun of someone else while you’re live on your account.

Keep in mind that your followers are probably following you because they appreciate what you have to say, so don’t waste their time.

It can feel tempting to yell at haters or call out those who make fun of you, but it will probably reflect poorly on your brand.

Don’t Try To Sell Anything

While you may use your time OnLive to promote a new product or service, remember that there are millions of users trying to do exactly that.

Sure, maybe one person will buy what you’re selling, but odds are no one will—and they’ll be less likely to follow you.

Even if they buy something, chances are they won’t remember later and wind up giving their business to someone else.

Don’t be Rude Or Mean

It may seem harmless, but it’s not. No one is perfect, and we all make mistakes sometimes. If you call out a friend for their imperfections, that’s fine—but don’t be rude or mean about it.

Think of other people as your friends; if they make a mistake, help them learn from it.

The only way to do that is by being kind!

Don’t Ask For Likes or Comments

Asking for people to like or comment on your posts can feel great at that moment, but often results in a feeling of disappointment and even guilt if your posts don’t receive as many likes or comments as you were hoping.

It’s also a huge social faux pas, so keep it to yourself. Instead, focus all of your energy on being a creator and getting your content out there; don’t worry about anyone else watching you—or not watching you.

Don’t Be Inappropriate

This should go without saying, but it’s worth mentioning that any vulgar language or explicit references to sex or drugs are going to be against community guidelines.

If you have to ask yourself whether your video is appropriate, it probably isn’t.

Have Fun!

Most people get their first taste of live-streaming through TikTok.

This, though, doesn’t mean you should forgo all safety precautions. Remember that you’re in a public space and use common sense to avoid putting yourself or anyone else in danger.

Even if you start out being careful, however, you might end up being spontaneous—and who knows? If so, be sure to have fun with it!

How long should a TikTok live be?

There’s no one-size-fits-all answer to how long a live stream should be. However, it’s fair to say that something short and sweet is better than something long and boring.

A 5–10 minute live stream allows you to pique interest in your viewers, build anticipation for what’s coming next and help people find out more about you in a short time.

This also prevents your video from being too long—which can kill engagement pretty quickly. I recommend keeping your live TikTok video no longer than 1 hour.

6 Quick Tips Before you go LIVE on TikTok

Get your hair and makeup ready

Whether you’re doing a solo or group stream, your hair and makeup are just as important as any outfit you may be wearing.

The camera picks up every single detail so make sure that any alterations you make to your hair and makeup are ready for streaming.

For example, if you’re going for a bold lip color, it would be a good idea to test it out at home before filming for an hour.

Or if you want to wear eyeliner (which most people do), practice putting it on in different ways beforehand so that there aren’t any awkward moments where your hand freezes and viewers wonder why there is still a liner above your eye.

It also never hurts to have some extra spares at home in case of any unexpected smudges!

Make sure your phone is fully charged

If you’re going live on TikTok from a personal device, make sure your phone is fully charged, otherwise, it may run out of juice before you finish your live video.

If your phone is running low, you can plug it in or consider using a wireless charger if your phone (especially iPhone) supports it.

Keep in mind that when you are broadcasting, all your followers will be notified via push notification and this can drain your battery faster than usual.

And if you want to save battery power, you can change your broadcast settings so that only people following you can see and interact with your content.

Set a time and space to go live

You want to clear space for you and your audience

Find a place where you won’t be interrupted by friends or family (if they see/hear what’s happening). Set yourself up in an area with good lighting too so that people can see your face and body clearly. Your profile picture should already be set as public if you want it to show up in search results and across other users’ feeds.

You can also share images in order to increase engagement without adding new content through snaps or stories.

Test your connection before going live

Do a test run to make sure your phone is connected to Wifi and that you’re able to load up your account. This will save you from a potential disaster!

You may have done all of these things, but if you don’t know for sure, test them out before going live. Once you actually are live, there isn’t much of a chance that it can be fixed!

Use keywords in the title of your live stream

To help viewers find your live stream, you can use keywords and phrases in your live title. For example, if you are a musician, you could use a tour or concert as one of your keywords.

If people search for a keyword that’s similar to yours, then it’s likely they will find your live stream.

While each keyword and phrase is limited to 40 characters, including over three keywords increases your chances of getting found when someone searches for any of those terms.

You should also take advantage of special characters like emojis when appropriate—for example, using an emoji that represents jazz music might get viewers who love jazz interested in what you offer!

Feel comfortable during your recording session

Before you hit that live button, make sure you’re comfortable with your surroundings.

Wear clothing that makes you feel beautiful and allows you to move freely.

You can even decorate your room or yourself—put up posters, play some of your favorite music, or turn off any lights that might be distracting.

The better you feel during your recording session, the more likely it is that people will enjoy watching!

Write down goals for the first month of your TIKTOK channel.

You’re going to be extremely busy building up your presence, so get started by having a plan in place.

The more you know where you want to go, and when you want to be there, it makes it that much easier for your followers and fans.

The next step is researching competitors.

  • Who do they follow?
  • How many followers do they have?
  • What kind of content do they post regularly?
  • How long does their content last?

Tell friends about it!

Making an account is easy and fast, but you need to convince your friends to try it too. Otherwise you’ll be sitting alone in your room with no one watching.

To start, share a fun and creative video (that shows what TikTok can do) with your closest buddies.

At first, don’t even ask them for feedback: They will probably just tell you what they like about it!

From there, use more social media sites and texts to recruit more people into TikTok communities.

Invite them all at once using a simple message with a link—if you are having trouble getting others signed up under their own free will, try buying some of their followers or hearts as well.

End with a positive note

These tips are great, but remember that they’re not just suggestions. They’re what people have found useful when they want to make videos of themselves and share them with their friends.

If you do all of these things, your live video is bound to be a huge success—you might even get famous!

Let everyone know how easy it was for you with a short testimonial at the end of your video.

You can also include your username so that viewers can find you later if they like what they see.

And if you’re really feeling bold, don’t forget to ask for likes!

Your followers will appreciate it—and who knows? Maybe you’ll get some!

Conclusion

Now that you know how to go live on TikTok, what you should and shouldn’t do while streaming, and other useful information, use your newfound knowledge to have a positive and enjoyable experience.

The last thing anyone wants is for things to get out of hand and cause problems in real life, so we suggest putting thought into what you post before you hit that big red Go Live button.

Remember, whatever happens online will eventually come back to haunt you, so keep it clean and consider your actions before going live! Happy TikToking!
